Helga and Anthony DeGasperis Education Fund

SAI Education's Helga and Anthony DeGasperis Fund provides funding to support education proposals aligned with the SAI Education Strategic Plan to promote the advancement and integration of education to link science, clinical care and patient outcomes in the delivery of education for patients, providers, learners and researchers.

This is an open grant opportunity available for application throughout the year. The SAI Education funds will be awarded based on initial review by the SAI Education Lead and the Associated Lead and final approval by the SAI Executive Committee.

Note: Applications for DeGasperis grants are temporarily on pause while we are making some changes to the application process.

The SAI Education fund is open to SAI faculty and staff. The awards will be for a one-year period.

Principal applicants may make one submission only per calendar year (principal applicants may be co-applicants on other submissions within the same year).

The maximum amount per award will be $25,000 for one year.

Grant recipients must acknowledge The Helga and Anthony DeGasperis Fund in any communication, materials or publications related to the project.

A mid-term report outlining progress to date of the grant is to be submitted to Lori Albert and Laura Passalent for review and feedback.

Within three (3) months after the activity, an end-of-grant report will be required summarizing the outcomes and describing how the grant funds were used; any leftover funds will be returned, if applicable. When necessary, grant term extension(s) may be granted on a case-by-case basis.

The adjudication process will be conducted by the SAI Executive Committee. The criteria for the awards will include the education record of the principal applicant, the quality of the education proposal and the feasibility of successful completion. Priority will be given to education initiatives that are aligned with SAI Education Strategic Plan 2022-2027.

Note: Applications for DeGasperis grants are temporarily on pause while we are making some changes to the application process.

The application should include the following:

  • CV of the principal applicant and all co-applicants (no particular format);
  • A summary of the education project (two pages maximum), which should also include proposed education outcomes, and Budget (one-page maximum).

Applications should be sent via email to Dr. Lori Albert and Laura Passalent.

Award notifications will be released to successful applicants following 6 weeks of submission.

A Funds Transfer Agreement (FTA) will then be processed between SAI, University Health Network (UHN) and the recipients. This process may take 4-6 weeks to complete.
