​​SAI Educational Excellence Award

At Schroeder Arthritis Institute (SAI), we believe in recognizing and celebrating outstanding achievements in education. The Educational Excellence Award has been established to honour individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation and impact in the field of education.

Eligibility

Health educators within Schroeder Arthritis Institute: Physicians, Nurses, Allied Health, Researchers

Categories

Teaching Excellence

Recognizing outstanding in-person or online instruction and innovative, interactive teaching methods.

Educational Leadership

Honouring individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, educational research and new program initiatives in educational institutions.

Community Engagement

Acknowledging efforts to bridge the gap between educational institutions, divisions and the community (patients, cross collaboration between departments and interprofessional).

Criteria for Selection

Demonstrated Excellence

  • Demonstrate a record of excellence in education. For example: innovative approaches to teaching (e.g. interactive, integrative, inclusive, virtual and in-person); developing new approaches to teaching/learning; innovative educational research; educational leadership, etc

Impact and Influence

  • Evidence of a positive impact on students, colleagues and the broader community
  • Contributions that have led to positive change in the education sector

Professional Development

  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Contributions to the development of educational programs (curriculum) or initiatives, such as new courses (tangible novelty)

Community Involvement

  • Engagement with the local community or broader society to enhance the educational experience
  • Initiatives that foster collaboration between educational institutions and the community (patient partners, patient support groups, interprofessional collaborators, etc.)

Demonstrates Ethical and Inclusive Educational Practices

  • Adherence to ethical standards in education
  • Promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the educational environment

Nomination and Selection Process

  • Nominations can be submitted by colleagues, learners
  • Nominees can only be nominated for one award category
  • The submission package should include:
    • A letter from a primary and secondary nominator that endorses the above criteria (at least one of the above categories)
    • Curriculum Vitae or equivalent of the nominee
  • One award will be granted per category each academic year
  • A selection committee comprised of representatives from SAI will review nominations and supporting documentation
  • Award recipients will be announced and honoured in the SAI Newsletter at the end of the educational year

The SAI Educational Excellence Award seeks to recognize individuals who contribute significantly to the advancement of education and aims to inspire a culture of educational excellence, innovation and dedication to continuous learning within the SAI community.
