Our hospitals provide professional
translation services but if you’re not fluent in English you may find it helpful to bring a friend or family member who can translate your needs to our staff.
The UHN Emergency Departments are happy to see any and all patients, but please note the following:
ChildbirthUHN can't provide special obstetrics care. If you do attend one of our Emergency Departments, we may have to transfer you to another hospital to continue your care. The nearest hospital which provides this service is
Mount Sinai Hospital.
ChildrenUHN does not have any pediatricians on staff. While
Toronto Western Hospital does see children, if a child requires admission or specialist care, they will need to be transferred to another hospital, generally the
Hospital for Sick Children.
Medical adviceWe cannot offer medical advice over the phone.
Wait time advisoriesWe cannot predict the length of your wait time either while you are at the hospital or when you call on the phone.
Additional chargesSome services (e.g., Ambulance) and products (e.g., crutches or certain types of splints) are not covered by Ontario Health Insurance. You may be asked to pay for these services or to expect a bill in the mail. We will generally inform you about these costs and try to answer any questions you may have. If you have supplementary insurance or are not an Ontario resident, there may be further costs or possibilities for recovery of these charges. You may need to contact your health insurance provider for assistance.
