Research and Innovation

New ideas and research related to therapeutic recreation are always in the works. Team members have published in The Therapeutic Recreation Journal and Geriatrics and Aging. Research about the spinal cord rehabilitation cottage program, geriatric hemodialysis patients and body mapping, seated yoga and the spinal cord patient are just a few of the examples currently underway.

The Therapeutic Recreation Professional Advisory Committee commits to 2-3 continuing professional development projects to ensure best practices for the profession. Standards for documentation, animal assisted therapy, student manuals, assessment tools, outcome measurement tools and many other topics have been areas for development over the years.

Therapeutic recreation practitioners in our facility have presented at conferences locally, provincially, nationally and internationally.
