Cancer & COVID

At the Psychosocial Oncology Clinic, your team includes social workers, music and art therapists, psychologists and psychiatrists. They provide counselling and therapies to help you and your family cope with cancer, reduce stress and improve emotional well-being. We offer many services to help you and your family while you are a patient at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. We also provide support after your treatment.

How to Get Referred

You must be an existing patient of Princess Margaret Cancer Centre to be referred to Psychosocial Oncology. To be seen by Psychiatry or Psychology you need a referral from your Princess Margaret Cancer Centre doctor. To be seen by a social worker you can self-refer by calling 416 946 4525, or your physician can complete a referral form.

How Long Does a Referral Take?

The Psychosocial Oncology department will contact you directly with an appointment. It may take a few weeks for you to get an appointment with Psychiatry or Psychology. Call the doctor’s office if you do not receive information about your appointment within a few weeks.

Referral Information for Physicians

Find referral forms and contact information for Psychosocial Oncology on the UHN Intranet, under the Department of Supportive Care.

What to Expect

Facing cancer can be stressful. At the Psychosocial Oncology Clinic, we focus on taking care of your emotional well-being, and your family’s.

We work together with you and the other members of your health care team to make sure your concerns and anxieties are looked after throughout your cancer experience – from diagnosis to after treatment. We can also connect you to the many services and supports available at Princess Margaret and in the community.

A member of your health care team may refer you to the Psychosocial Oncology Clinic, or you or a family member may request a referral. Once the referral is confirmed, someone from the Psychosocial Oncology Clinic will contact you and give you a time for your first appointment.
