How to Get Referred

You need a referral from your doctor (another specialist like your neurosurgeon or family physician) to become a patient at the CNS (Central Nervous System) clinic at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

When making a referral, your doctor will include:

  • A letter of referral
  • Accurate, up to date contact information for you, along with your health card number.
  • Clinical notes including a final pathology report if you have had surgery, information about other treatments you may already have had for your brain tumour (ie. surgery, radiation therapy or chemotherapy).
  • Copies of relevant blood work.
  • Copies of MRI and CT scan reports as well as a CD copy of all imaging (MRI or CT Scan) done related to your brain or spinal cord tumour. The CD can either be sent to the consulting physician’s office by the referring physician, or given to the patient to bring with them to the appointment.

How Long Does a Referral Take?

Usually the doctor who referred you to the CNS Clinic will contact you with your appointment time. Call the referring doctor’s office if you do not receive information about your appointment within a couple of weeks.

Referral Information for Physicians

Your doctor can get all the referral information they need in our guide for referring physicians. See the Guide for Physicians Referring to the Central Nervous System and Brain Tumour Clinic »

Relaxation Services At The Pencer Centre

Many people living with a brain tumour feel worried, sad or stressed at various stages of their cancer journey. Relaxation exercises may help you cope with both everyday stress and stress that you may be feeling about your health.

To learn more about relaxation exercises, a Pencer Centre Rehabilitation Consultant can work with you one-on-one during an individual relaxation therapy session.

For more information, please contact Katherine Mileski, Rehabilitation Consultant, at 416 946 4501 x3995.
