The John C. & Marvi Ricker Social Work Fellowship in Palliative Care
The 9-month Social Work Fellowship at the University Health Network & University of Toronto multi-sited campus is a full-time fellowship that focuses on interprofessional collaboration in meeting the needs of palliative patients and their family or caregivers in a variety of settings, which is reflective of the continuum of care.
Program Highlights
The fellowship program may include clinical rotations in the following areas:
- palliative care inpatient
- palliative outpatient
- cancer center
- intensive care unit
- community placements
- advance care planning
- Indigenous Health Program
- research
As a fellow, you will participate in all facets of clinical social work, including direct patient biopsychosocial evaluations, psychosocial assessments, documentation, support groups, selection conferences, care team rounds, facilitation of patient education and staff meetings.
Upon successful completion of the fellowship, you will have accomplished:
- An academic year of a variety of specialty clinical & community experiences in the UHN/UofT FIFSW system.
- An academic year of clinical supervision designed to prepare you for a joint collaborative palliative specialist certificate from the University of Toronto Factor Inwentash Faculty of Social Work & the University Health Network. The John C. & Marvi Ricker Social Work Fellowship in Palliative Care consists of:
- At least 50 hours of supervision in no less than 30 weeks
- 1,200 hours of face-to-face supportive counselling or psychotherapy with clients
- One hour of supervision every two weeks
