Chiropody is the branch of medicine that involves the assessment and management of foot and lower limb conditions. Physicians as well as other health care professionals often refer their patients for consultation. Foot deformities, infections and injuries not only limit your mobility, but can damage your health and quality of life.
A chiropodist is a primary care professional who specializes in assessment, management and prevention of diseases and disorders of the foot by therapeutic, surgical, orthotic, and palliative means. An essential member of the health care team, the chiropodist is skilled in assessing the needs of their patients and managing chronic and acute conditions affecting foot and lower limb function. As a primary care provider capable of independent clinical practice, these skills are practiced independent of medical referral and medical supervision.
Chiropodists are primary care professionals regulated by the
College of Chiropodists of Ontario.
Chiropody Services
There is no referral required to receive treatment by a chiropody clinic. Each clinic has its own specifications for patient appointments, and in hospital settings, outpatients may not be seen.
