Summer students who have secured placements at the University Health Network (UHN) are invited to join the Cancer 360+ Summer Student Program.

This unique program is designed to complement summer placements at UHN, providing an enriching addition to the summer student experience. Cancer 360+ aims to equip and empower potential future cancer professionals through topics not typically covered in training, with the goal of support a well-rounded, adaptive cancer workforce. Participation in Cancer 360+ is an exclusive opportunity for students with placements at UHN.

About Cancer 360+ Summer Student Program

Program Summary

The Cancer 360+ Program consists of:

  1. Ten virtual asynchronous eLearning units covering a wide range of cancer and cancer related topics.
  2. Weekly live sessions with course experts.
  3. Workshops targeting skill development: e.g. presentation skills.
  4. An option to attend the Summer Research Day and support students who present research posters.

Participants will be able to earn an eCertificate of Completion by completing all 10 units and evaluation surveys.

  • Any high school or postsecondary student doing a summer placement at UHN

Course Content

The Cancer 360+ course includes 10 units covering topics that are not typically covered in training for cancer care professionals.

About Cancer and Cancer Survivorship

This unit defines what cancer is, how cancer is treated, and key issues facing cancer survivors. It also includes a description of an innovative cancer rehabilitation program for survivors as well as a video series featuring various types of professionals who work in cancer care.

This unit introduces the concepts of health literacy and educational design with an emphasis on the impact of cancer health literacy on patients and healthcare providers, in addition to strategies to promote health literacy.

This unit defines cancer prevention strategies and their importance for the public health system from the perspective of Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario), a health agency of the provincial government of Ontario, are discussed.

Indigenous Cancer Care

This unit provides an introduction to key issues in Indigenous Cancer Care and context to appreciate Indigenous relationships and cultural safety. A new perspective on Indigenous culture is shared through a recorded discussion among three Indigenous healthcare providers.

This unit provides a high-level overview of patient experiences along the cancer journey as well as personal stories about challenges faced in the health care system while receiving cancer care.

Music Therapy in Cancer Care

In this unit the field of music therapy is introduced including a focus on how music therapy complements all healthcare fields, and what music therapy means on a physical, mental, and social level.

This unit introduces the concept of Interprofessional Education and how it lays the foundation for Interprofessional Collaboration and Care highlighting the interprofessional nature of comprehensive healthcare.

eCertificate of Completion

The Cancer 360+ units are a coordinated suite of offerings, with each unit building upon and informing the next. For learners who complete all 10 educational units, an eCertificate of Completion for Cancer 360+ will be awarded. Please note that if a unit has questions or a quiz associated with it, you must also complete these to complete the unit.


Summer Student Research Day

A Summer Student Research Day will be held annually in August. The Research Day provides students with the opportunity to:

  • Gain experience sharing research findings and compete for Best Research Poster
  • Practise communication skills and compete for Best Lightning Talk
  • Learn about other summer projects peers are working on in the Cancer Program
  • Network and celebrate the end of a great summer!

All are welcome to attend; however, only summer students with placements in the Cancer Program and registered for the Cancer 360+ Summer Student Program can participate in the Research Poster and Lightning Talk Competitions.​​​​​​​

Cancer 360+ runs in parallel with summer placements. The program aims to equip and empower potential cancer professionals through topics not typically covered in training, with the goal of supporting a well-rounded, adaptive cancer workforce.

Registration Is ​Open

Course begins June 5, 2023.

To Register:

  1. Go to Cancer Campus at pmcancercampus.ca.
  2. Click Log in in the top right corner and click on Create new account​. If you are a UHN employee, log in using your UHN account.
  3. Wait for the confirmation email and follow the instructions.
  4. Access the Cancer 360+ Summer Student Program course. Enroll in the course using the enrollment key.

  1. The virtual asynchronous Cancer 360 course, which includes 10 units containing lectures, eLearning modules, reflection questions and knowledge assessments
  2. Weekly live sessions features Q&As with experts from the course and skill-building workshops
  3. Sharing your summer placement experience through a lightning talk and participating in a research poster competition
