On January 1, 2016 the Michener Institute of Applied Health Sciences and University Health Network made Canadian history when they integrated to form The Michener Institute of Education at UHN. This move was designed to transform health care education and delivery by closing the gap between research, clinical practice and education.
Today, The Michener Institute of Education at UHN serves as the education hub for all of UHN, promoting continuous improvement in health care education design and delivery, and lifelong learning at all stages of life. It encompasses the School of Continuing Education and the School of Applied Health Sciences as well as the structures, staff and resources that support all learning and teaching across the hospital network.
As a leading teaching hospital, UHN recognizes that a high-quality learning environment requires exceptional teaching – something we have in abundance and we continually nurture through educational development, both individually and collaboratively. As clinical practice evolves, new models of teaching and learning are informed by our teaching and learning expertise, and our ability to mobilize knowledge for caring, discovery, learning and decision-making.
