You will need to ask the receptionist to give you access to the classroom.

  • These are didactic sessions attended by all residents and medical students on a palliative care rotation at UHN or Mount Sinai Hospital.
  • Attendance is mandatory unless you have other scheduled clinic or academic half-days during this time, or have attended them previously.
  • Suggested and required pre-reading is available online
  • Different topics are covered each week.
  • Check with the staff physicians you are working with as to whether you are expected to return to PMH after the session – this will depend on how busy the service is.

Journal Club

  • The Palliative Care Journal Club provides a forum for learners to present a topic in palliative care of interest to them stemming from cases encountered during the Palliative Care rotation.
  • Journal Club takes place most Mondays, at 8:30 am in Room 16 – 728 on the 16th floor of PMH.
  • It is attended by the interprofessional team including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers and other interested parties (usually 10 – 15 people).
  • Attendance is mandatory. Each resident, medical student or fellow on rotation for 2 weeks or longer is expected to present.
  • Dr. Ernie Mak coordinates and supports learners for Journal Club; coordinate a date and topic for presentation with him in the first week of your rotation.
