About

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) is a member of the inter-professional care team and maintains a collaborative working relationship in the provision of supportive care. The role is to support not only the physical needs but to provide comfort, encourage independence where appropriate and promote a patient-centred environment.

The PSW is actively involved in assisting patients with activities of daily needs. It includes but is not strictly limited to performing basic patient care functions, which contribute to the implementation of the plan of care. The PSW work under the supervision of a nurse or other regulated health care provider; and works to their own knowledge, skills and abilities including how to report outcomes and escalate safety concerns.

Required Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a PSW program from an accredited college*
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate
