Iconic wall facing south on Yonge Street to get a mural makeover

Toronto (March 11, 2013) - Sporting Life and The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation are thrilled to announce the Toronto based sporting retailer's generous support of Canada's premier bike ride fundraiser.

Sporting Life has been a longstanding supporter of charity events and is pleased to support The Princess Margaret and its vision to Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime. Sporting Life will assist in continuing to build on the success of the event in the fight to conquer cancer by riding 200+km on June 8-9, 2013 and, in doing so, raising crucial funds to help revolutionize Personalized Cancer Medicine at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

"We are excited to play an integral role in The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer and contribute to one of the leading cancer research centres in the world," stated Sporting Life. "We are proud of Sporting Life's long time sponsorship of charity events in our community and there's nothing that compares to The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer."

"The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation has undertaken a Billion Dollar Challenge to secure that amount of money over the next five years to set a new gold standard for Personalized Cancer Medicine," said Paul Alofs, President & CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. "We are so thankful to committed and passionate organizations like Sporting Life who are making this dream a reality."

As part of this partnership, The Ride has been given the opportunity to design a mural for the iconic exterior wall of Sporting Life Bikes store at Yonge and Roselawn in Toronto. Steve Merker, Vice President of Business Development for The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation stated "We plan on creating a new mural which captures and celebrates the spirit of The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. Passionate artist of all abilities are invited to submit mural concepts, one of which will be chosen to be painted by a professional mural artist."

The winning design will be selected by a committee, and then painted in early April. The committee will be made up of representatives from Sporting Life, The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer, The Public (via Facebook), and The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. For more guidance on the design and contest rules and regulations, please contact Denise Dorfman. The winner will receive a special prize package from Sporting Life and one complimentary registration for the 'sold out' 2013 Ride. The winning mural design will also be recognized on-line and at the unveiling ceremony in May.
