Toronto (March 27, 2003) - In accordance with provincial directives, the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute is taking precautions to protect patients and staff from contracting SARS. There are currently no cases of SARS at Toronto Rehab. To protect patients and staff from this illness, the following measures are in effect until further notice at all Toronto Rehab centres.

  • Inpatient services are not affected. Essential services such as dialysis will continue.
  • Outpatient clinics, activities, programs, appointments and day hospital services are cancelled.
  • No visitors are allowed, except for those visiting critically ill patients or where visits are deemed clinically necessary. Approved visitors will be provided with surgical masks.
  • Volunteers should not come to the hospital.
  • Students should not come to the hospital unless they are providing patient care.
  • New patients are not being admitted.
  • Patients are not being discharged to other facilities. However, patients may be discharged home.
  • Hospital access is restricted to one entrance at each site. Staff members are required to show hospital identification.
