Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is celebrating the completion of a new dedicated space for staff – another milestone in the hospital's space transformation project.

After months of planning and construction, the new space on the seventh floor of 620 University Ave. features:

  • An employee lounge with a kitchen, lunchroom and lounge seating
  • 24/7 gym with changing rooms and showers
  • Massage therapy treatment room
  • A fitness studio for group classes
  • Two multipurpose rooms that can be booked for social events and celebrations through Room Bookings
  • A quiet space
  • Family Room – private room that can be booked to be used by staff who are nursing mothers
  • Occupational Health & Safety and Employee Relations offices
The project began with the development of a working group that included staff from across the cancer centre. The group developed a survey to gain input from staff on what they hoped to have in the space and those results were shared with the design team to inform the project plans.

“We’re very excited to have a space at the cancer centre dedicated solely to our staff,” says Marnie Escaf, Senior Vice-President at the Princess Margaret.

“This space provides employee services such as HR, Occupational Health, community space and gym facilities. We know employees have wanted this and it is important for us to have a space where our staff can re-energize and connect with each other.”

The space on the seventh floor of 620 University Ave. will be freely accessible on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. After 6 p.m. and on weekends staff will need their ID badge to gain access to the space.

Employees with a Wellness membership will have key card access programmed to their ID badge, which will allow access to the gym 24/7. The gym is equipped with treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, free weights and other strength and cardio equipment.
