Hi Everyone,

Last September, following an incident in our Elizabeth St. parking garage, I wrote to let you know we would be making some changes and improvements to our parking lots, to help make them as safe as possible for staff and visitors. Since then, our Facilities and Security teams have been working together on a number of projects that I would like to tell you about. The following changes are planned, many of which are already completed or underway:

  • Painting to brighten and improve visibility (the final step is the painting of the Leonard St. garage, which will begin as soon as the outside temperature allows)
  • Replacing/improving lighting systems where necessary
  • Installing panic stations where needed, and painting existing stations to make them more visible
  • Updating parking lot equipment, such as entry and exit gates for faster service
  • Planning the addition of more security cameras to monitor activity in lots

The efforts of Security and Facilities teams have brightened up our garages quite a bit, which we hope will help make them safer for everyone. But we need your help, too. Please let Security know immediately if you spot any unusual or suspicious activity. I also encourage everyone to take advantage of the Security team's Safe Walk program. For an escort to your car, please call ext. 4111 anytime. Thank you for your suggestions, and if you have any questions or concerns, please drop me a line at http://intranet.uhn.ca/home/straight_talk/drop_a_line.asp.

Sincerely, Bob
