Princess Margaret Cancer Centre accepts referrals from Ontario, across Canada and internationally. Choose the cancer type or department below to learn more about referring your patient. Some clinics now accept Ocean eReferrals to save time and increase efficiency.

If you are a patient, you will need your doctor to send a referral to Princess Margaret for you.

If you do not know which department to refer your patient to, contact the New Patient Referral Centre (NPRC) at 416 946 4575.

Patient Eligibility

Canadian Patients

Any patient that has a valid Canadian provincial or territorial health card or Canadian federal health insurance can be referred to Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Referrals will be assessed and if approved, an appointment will be scheduled.

All international patient referrals must go through the UHN International Patient Program (IPP).

How to Refer a Patient to Princess Margaret

You can refer a patient through the following programs and departments:

Diagnostic Assessment Program (DAP)
Department of Medical Oncology & Hematology (DMOH) and Department of Radiation Oncology (DRO)
Department of Surgical Oncology (DSO)

If you do not know which program or department to refer your patient to, contact the New Patient Referral Centre (NPRC) at 416 946 4575 or NewPatientRegistrationAndReferrals@uhn.ca.

Urgent Referrals

If your patient needs immediate, urgent care, you must contact a physician directly. You can find lists of the physicians in the various departments in each department’s referral guide.

Note: All leukemia referrals are considered urgent. If you are referring a patient with leukemia, please see the Referral Guide for Medical Oncology and Hematology [PDF, opens in new window] to find a list of physicians you can refer your patient to.
