If you stay as a patient at UHN, you can request your preference out of 3 types of patient rooms:
You will be asked about your room preference during admission or pre-admission. For semi-private and private rooms, we will need your private insurance information, and you will be asked to provide a credit card imprint for any portion that your insurance plan may not cover. If you do not have private insurance and want to have a semi-private or private room, you must provide a credit card imprint, and charges will be put through to your credit card on a weekly basis (a receipt will be dropped off to your room as the payments are processed).
We will try our best to give you a private or semi-private room if you request one. Rooms are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. We may need to make room changes during your stay due to medical or infection control needs. If you stay in a room that is different from the type of room you requested, you or your insurance company will only be billed for the type of room you actually stay in (or the type of room you requested, whichever is less), for example:
