Our Services

UHN Libraries provide a variety of services to UHN staff, physicians and students to meet their information needs, including research, training and document delivery.

Expert Assistance

The Library offers literature searches, including assistance with searches for systematic review work, on all online databases for UHN staff and students. For more information, contact the appropriate Information Specialist.

UHN Information Specialists provide Clinical Librarian services to the departments of Family and Community Medicine, General Surgery, Psychiatry and the Bariatric Program. By attending meeting such as morning reports and quality care rounds, where patient care is discussed regularly, librarians bring the skills of an expert searcher to the point of clinical need.

Information Literacy

Library staff provide customized information literacy training in two specific areas: (1) effective mining of bio-medical databases for evidence-based information and (2) keeping current with new internet and health sciences information developments. The venues for structured training include a combination of one-on-one and group training sessions, as well as group workshops conducted at all sites. Our most popular workshops include PubMed: Tips and Tricks, MEDLINE Power Searching, Google, Google Scholar & You, EndNote from Scratch, and CINAHL.

Document Delivery

This service is available to all UHN employees. Clients may request books and/or journals from the library's collections at any site at no cost. Turnaround time is usually within two to three business days unless otherwise specified.

Items not available in the UHN libraries may be requested from other libraries around the world. Materials usually arrive within three to four business days. Borrowing/retrieval fees may apply. Please submit your requests by email to uhnlibraries@uhn.ca.
