Thousands of supporters help raise $1M at We Walk UHNITED

On May 30, 2026, patients, families, donors, volunteers and TeamUHN came together for the UHN Foundation’s annual fundraiser We Walk UHNITED, presented by Rogers.

In its second consecutive year, the event raised over $1 million dollars, with proceeds supporting research and innovation at UHN.

More than 4,000 people took part in the five or two kilometre accessible routes through downtown Toronto, passing several UHN sites. The walk ended with a celebration outside UHN’s Toronto General Hospital that included delicious food and family friendly activities.

Canadian music icon Kardinal Offishall returned to the We Walk UHNITED stage this year as the event’s DJ. Toronto band Dwayne Gretzky also joined in with a live performance, transforming the event into a downtown block party.

“Seeing thousands of people show up to support life-changing care, research and education at Canada’s No. 1 hospital was incredibly moving and is a true testament to the power of community,” said Julie Quenneville, CEO, UHN Foundation.

“Every step taken today helps us continue pushing the boundaries of medicine and delivering hope to patients and families across Canada and beyond, and is a reminder that when we work together, we are changing the future of health care.”

Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Ride raises over $23 million

More than 4,400 cyclists travelled a 200 kilometre journey from Toronto and Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., — with an additional 400 riders beginning in the Niagara region — during an inspiring two-day event earlier this month.

The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation Ride, presented by Johnson & Johnson, is the largest athletic fundraiser in Canada and raises funds for cancer research, education and care at UHN’s Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

This year's Ride, taking place on June 12 and 13, set a new fundraising milestone, generating an incredible $23.3 million in donations — the third consecutive record-breaking year, bringing the event's cumulative impact to more than $344 million.

“Year after year, riders, volunteers and supporters show us what it means to Carry The Fire, collectively riding thousands of kilometres and raising millions of dollars so that no one has to fear the words, ‘You have cancer,’” said Dr. Miyo Yamashita, President and CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

“This record-breaking level of support is more than a milestone — it accelerates discovery, expands what's possible in cancer treatment and brings renewed hope to patients and loved ones.”

The Ride will mark it’s 20th anniversary in 2027 — a milestone that will honour two decades of impact while driving the next era of discovery and care.

Horizon Health Network joins the Princess Margaret Cancer Care Network

Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is the ninth cancer program in Canada to join the Princess Margaret Cancer Care Network. It is also the third partner from outside Ontario and the first from the Maritime provinces — an important milestone that strengthens cancer care expertise, research and education across New Brunswick and beyond.

The Princess Margaret Cancer Care Network brings together local, regional and national partners to enhance collaborative clinical care, accelerate research and innovation, and strengthen cancer education.

“The Princess Margaret Cancer Care Network is built on collaboration,” said Dr. Andrea Bezjak, Medical Director of the Princess Margaret Cancer Care Network.

"Our model is designed to complement, not replace, existing partnerships, enhancing capacity and access while preserving established pathways. By sharing expertise and innovation across institutions, we can better address unmet needs and strengthen care for patients across the country.”

A key focus will be strengthening radiation oncology capabilities and developing advanced techniques, including spinal and liver Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) protocols.

Horizon is New Brunswick's largest regional health authority, providing a full continuum of cancer care services to patients across multiple sites, including Saint John, Moncton, Fredericton, Miramichi, and several regional and satellite locations.

“For patients here in New Brunswick, this partnership means greater access to specialized expertise, innovative treatments and clinical trials close to home,” said Greg Doiron, Vice President of Clinical Operations with Horizon Health Network.

“For our cancer care teams, it opens new doors for collaboration, research and professional growth that will elevate the standard of care we deliver today and for years to come.”
