UHN welcomes Ontario Minister of Health for rTMS clinic tour

UHN welcomed Ontario Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones to Toronto Western Hospital to learn about a lifesaving mental health treatment.

During her visit, Minister Jones took a look inside UHN's Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) clinic, which treats patients using a non-invasive form of brain stimulation.

Dr. Gerasimos Konstantinou, Interventional Psychiatrist at UHN's Poul Hansen Family Centre for Depression and CAMH, demonstrated how magnetic pulses can be used to treat certain brain-related conditions — including cases of major depressive disorder — that are resistant to other forms of therapy.

These interactions continue to drive forward support for this lifesaving treatment.

Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation celebrates the 25th anniversary of Doves of Hope

TeamUHN, community members, patients and their loved ones gathered late January to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Doves of Hope — an inspiring initiative that has been a symbol of love, courage and healing, filling the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre with thousands of dove dedications.

To mark the milestone, Canadian artists whose lives have been touched by cancer were invited to reimagine what Doves of Hope means to them and bring that vision to life in their artwork.

During the celebratory event at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, each piece of art was proudly displayed throughout the evening. Guests had the opportunity to view and bid on the art, with all proceeds supporting The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

The event offered powerful symbols of hope and the reminder that cancer patients are not alone.

TeamUHN marks the launch of UHN's Surgery strategic action plan

Team members across surgical care areas came together during a celebratory event to mark the launch of UHN Surgery's strategic action plan, Bold Resolve: Shaping the Future of Surgery.

The plan serves as a five-year roadmap to strengthen clinical excellence, accelerate research and discovery, advance education, and drive surgical innovation. More than 250 surgeons, nurses, allied health professionals, anesthesiologists, scientists, learners, patient partners, and support and administrative staff had the opportunity to see their contributions reflected in the plan.

During the event, attendees learned about tools designed to support everyday practice, including new unit-level huddle strategy boards that help translate priorities into local action.

The plan stands as a testament to the power of co-ordinated teamwork and the collective commitment that will bring it to life over the next five years.
