It's Local Impact Awards time again at UHN.

The Local Impact Awards are given each year to a UHN employee or team whose work has significantly improved patient care or the workplace for staff at UHN.  If the work can be duplicated in another healthcare setting, then that's an additional factor in the committee's deliberations.

The Co-Chairs of the Local Impact Awards Committee are Dr. Michael Baker, Rose Family Chair in Medicine and former Physician-in-Chief at UHN, and Gillian Howard, Vice-President of Public Affairs and Communications at UHN.

The Local Impact Awards started in 2015. Last year's three Local Impact Awards winners were:

  1. The S.C.O.P.E. team: won the Local Impact Award – Clinical Team for their collaborative work with patients with high needs.
  2. Dr. Sam Sabbah, Assistant Medical Director, Emergency Department: won the Local Impact Award – Clinician for his significant and widely-recognized impact on patient care.
  3. Victor Trotman, Senior Director, Labour Relations: won the Local Impact Award – Workplace for his positive and principled approach when dealing with colleagues in contentious situations.

The nomination for the 2016 Local Impact Awards should be 500 words or less, and submitted through e-mail with "Local Impact Awards Nomination" in the subject line.

The nomination should include:

  • Who is being nominated for the award and where they work at UHN
  • What impact the work has had on patient care and/or UHN's workplace
  • Who a Committee member can speak to if there are additional questions about the nomination
  • Nominations should be sent to Michael.Baker@uhn.ca by May 13, 2016.

The Local Impact Award winners will be announced at the UHN Annual General Meeting on June 15.
