Dr. Robert Cusimano and Richard Rooney appointed to Order of Ontario

Dr. Robert Cusimano and Richard Rooney were named as recipients of the 2025 Order of Ontario – the province's highest civilian honour.

The Order of Ontario recognizes individuals that have helped to build a stronger Ontario and Canada through distinguished service and extraordinary achievements.

Dr. Cusimano is an internationally acclaimed cardiac surgeon and educator known for redefining care for malignant cardiac tumours. As the lead of a multidisciplinary program at UHN and complex cardiac surgeries at UHN's Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, he shares his methods and insights with doctors globally and at home, inspiring the next generation of cardiac care professionals.

Richard Rooney is recognized for his profound dedication and contributions to health care, education, arts and community development. As a prominent Canadian businessman and philanthropist, he serves on the Board of Directors at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation and as a Board Trustee at UHN. His leadership inspired Canada's first theranostics program at UHN's Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, enabling a ground-breaking approach to personalized cancer treatment that integrates diagnostics and therapy.

Miyo Yamashita Named Among the 100 Most Influential CEOs in Oncology

Congratulations to Miyo Yamashita, President and CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, for being named one of the 100 most influential CEOs in Oncology in 2025.

The global recognition, given by OncoDaily, highlights exceptional leadership and impact in advancing cancer care. It celebrates CEOs who drive innovation, foster collaboration and influence the oncology landscape through strategic vision and commitment to improving patient outcomes.

Miyo was recognized for leading The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation's strategy to mobilize philanthropic investment in cancer research, precision medicine and patient-centered innovation.

This distinction positions Miyo among the most influential voices shaping the future of oncology worldwide.

Princess Margaret Hall of Fame Inductees

Princess Margaret Cancer Centre has announced its second class of inductees into the Princess Margaret Hall of Fame.

The recognition honours distinguished leaders for their foundational work and excellence in cancer care, research and education.

“This year's inductees represent decades of leadership, discovery and dedication to patient care. Their contributions have shaped our institution and the global landscape of cancer care,” says Keith Stewart, Director, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Vice President, Cancer and the Laboratory Medicine Program at UHN.

Together, this year's inductees join the inaugural Hall of Fame class, expanding a growing legacy of innovation, collaboration and leadership. Their work continues to influence cancer care globally and inspire future generations committed to advancing a healthier world.

Congratulations to the second class of inductees:

Dr. Michael Baker

Dr. Baker, former Head of Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Physician-in-Chief at UHN for 18 years, is honoured for decades of visionary leadership, mentorship and enduring contributions that have shaped world-class programs today.

Dr. Mary Gospodarowicz

An internationally respected radiation oncologist, Dr. Gospodarowicz is recognized for her leadership of the Radiation Medicine Program at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, her transformative decade as former Director, and her contributions to global cancer policy, education and access to care.

Dr. Jonathan Irish

A global leader in head and neck surgery, Dr. Irish led the Surgical Oncology program at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre for 16 years. He helped to shape cancer care across the province as Provincial Head of the Surgical Oncology Program and later Clinical Vice President at Cancer Care Ontario.

Dr. Tak Mak

Dr. Mak is recognized for his many decades of groundbreaking and paradigm-shifting research in the fundamental role of T cells in cancer control —​leading to life-saving and curative therapies currently transforming patient outcomes globally. He has published over 1,000 peer-reviewed research papers, holds dozens of patents and has won numerous awards.

Dr. Malcolm Moore

A leader in medical oncology, Dr. Moore is celebrated for his many years of leadership and mentorship at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre as former Head of the Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology. He's also recognized for his contributions in clinical cancer research, including the establishment of the Robert and Maggie Bras and Family Drug Development Program and the Wallace McCain Centre for Pancreatic Cancer.

Dr. Christopher Paige

Dr. Paige is recognized for his decades of leadership and contributions to research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and across UHN — laying the foundation as Canada's leading academic medical research program.
