The Courage Shop at Toronto Western Hospital is a testament to the power of philanthropy to save and transform lives.
It has the appearance of a warm and inviting gift shop, but is actually an accessible and easy to find Donation Centre operated by the Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation.
Not everyone is comfortable giving online and the Courage Shop is a convenient alternative.
"What's unique about The Courage Shop is that we offer an assortment of beautiful thank you gifts as a token of our appreciation," said Anita Nielsen, a senior director at TGWHF. "Donors can choose from a range of options depending on their donation level, including plush lions, loose leaf tea, infuser mugs, first aid kits, amaryllis bulb kits and votive candles."
Honour Your Hero
Located in the Atrium behind Tim Hortons, The Courage Shop assists patients, families and staff to support our hospitals through a variety of giving programs, such as
Honour Your Hero. In addition, UHN staff can sign up for the
Pay Day 50/50 Raffle or support
the I Give @ UHN Campaign.
"We have thousands of grateful patients in our hospitals, and many express their thanks through a donation to one of our Foundations," said Nielsen. "Now when patients ask, 'How can I give back and say thank you?', staff can direct them to The Courage Shop to make a donation to the program closest to their heart."
Based on the immediate success of The Courage Shop at TWH, a second shop is planned for Toronto General Hospital.
For the month of December all visitors will receive a complimentary set of 10 holiday greeting cards just for stopping by.
The Courage Shop is open from 9:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and closed on weekends. Visit
