sudteam.jpgSudbury has long been known for mining, The Big Nickel and being the first city in Canada to install parking meters. Soon UHN will become part of this northern town. Known for its high quality client care and innovation in health care services, UHN Rehabilitation Solutions (UHN RS) opened a satellite clinic in Sudbury on October 5, 2009.

UHN RS has been a part of UHN since 1986. With a mission to provide "The Right Care, Always," UHN RS has provided services to clients across Ontario—services that include complex rehabilitative care, disability management, pain management and outpatient physiotherapy. Individualized and integrated care that respects the client and is delivered with integrity has been the cornerstone of UHN RS's success and the quality of the care clients receive.

The Sudbury satellite clinic is located approximately 400 km north of Toronto and will serve the Northern Ontario population. It has been long anticipated by the northern communities and will be a welcome addition to the services offered in the region. Specifically, RS will offer WSIB Specialty Programs, including an interdisciplinary pain program and hand and foot ankle assessment and treatment specialty services.

Lynne Raven, the Business Unit Manager for the Sudbury satellite clinic, expressed excitement regarding the new clinic, "Northern Ontario residents have always been able to travel to Toronto for UHN Rehabilitation Solutions services, including the WSIB Specialty Programs. Opening a Sudbury site now means that our Northern Ontario clients have much easier access to services that are required to restore function and quality of life. The impact will be major—clients will no longer have to travel and stay far away from their families to access our services."

Exhaustive planning and attention to detail has gone into setting up the Sudbury satellite clinic to maximize the ability to provide the right care to all clients. Location, proximity to amenities and transportation, natural light, comfortable and safe facilities were all factors considered. UHN RS is very proud of this accomplishment and invites anyone visiting Sudbury to stop by.
