UHN's Dr. John Dick has been recognized by the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR).
Dr. Dick, a Senior Scientist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, has received the ISSCR's Tobias Award Lecture for his leadership in the areas of normal stem cell and cancer stem cell biology over the past 30 years. His discoveries have led to significant advances in cancer biology and opened new areas of inquiry, the Illinois-based organization said in announcing four major award recipients.
"Dr. Dick has had a tremendous impact on the field of cancer research," said Dr. Sally Temple, President of the ISSCR. "Through his intellectual leadership, his high standard of scientific inquiry and creative insight, he has generated discoveries and approaches that have forever changed the way that researchers approach the development of cancer treatments."
Dr. Dick, who is also Canada Research Chair in Stem Cell Biology, a Senior Scientist at the McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine at UHN, a professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto and Director, Program in Cancer Stem Cells at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research, will present his research at a lecture at the ISSCR's annual meeting in Boston in June.
