A Senior Scientist at UHN and the former CEO of UHN Foundation are among the latest recipients of one of Canada's highest honours.

Dr. Anne Bassett and Tennys Hanson were among 78 new appointments to the Order of Canada made by Governor General Mary Simon.

"I greatly value the opportunity to celebrate individuals whose perseverance, ingenuity and community spirit have benefited Canadians throughout the country. As governor general, I have seen first-hand that our communities are rich in both excellence and diversity, which we need to do our utmost to recognize," the Governor General said in a news release accompanying the announcement.

Dr. Bassett, a Senior Scientist with UHN's Toronto General Hospital Research Institute (TGHRI) was named a Member of the Order in recognition of "her research and clinical contributions to advancing our understanding of the genetics of schizophrenia, particularly in the identification and characterization of genetic subtypes of the disorder."

Tennys Hanson, who retired as UHN Foundation CEO in Summer 2023, was named a Member of the Order for "her contributions to health care and education in Canada through her transformative leadership in the fundraising sector."

Each recipient will be invited to accept their insignia at a ceremony at a later date.
