UHN's KITE Research Institute is sending a callout to UHN entrepreneurs, inventors, researchers and startup companies to submit their health care solutions for a $50,000 Dragon's Den-style pitch competition in May.

The KITE Power Play Pitch Competition offers monetary prizes and the opportunity to help accelerate the development and commercial success of concepts, prototypes and other innovations in the health care space.

The event is scheduled to take place at the International Conference on Aging, Innovation and Rehabilitation (ICAIR), at the Carlu event venue on May 6 and 7.

"Power Play is designed to spark innovation and lay the foundation for commercial success in the health care industry," says Dr. Milos R. Popovic, Director of KITE, Chair of the ICAIR Organizing Committee and a past recipient of UHN's Inventor of the Year Award.

"No matter where you are in your journey, whether you're fleshing out your idea, refining a prototype, or leading a start-up with finished products and services, I encourage you to participate."

Live pitches before an expert panel of judges

Power Play offers a gateway to recognition and support for companies and concepts in the early stage of development.

The top 10 finalists in two categories – the Innovative Concept and the Innovative Start-up – will be invited to showcase their talent and ingenuity with a live pitch before an expert panel of judges on May 7.

"ICAIR attendees include researchers, scientists, academics, entrepreneurs and other innovators who are interested in enhancing the lives of those in our communities impacted by aging, disability and illness," says Dr. Popovic.

"If you have an idea or concept that has the potential to breakthrough and change the future of health care in a positive way, then you want to be presenting at Power Play."

More information on the categories, prizes and submission process is available on the Power Play website. The deadline for online application submissions is Friday, March 8, 2024.
