Mohamed AliThe Mohamed Ali Memorial Award was established in 2022 by the UHN Foundation through the generosity of the Ali family and donor philanthropy.

The award supports an annual grant for educational and professional development opportunities to members of Environmental Services or Transportation across UHN sites. The award honours the life and legacy of Mohamed Ali, a longtime member of the UHN housekeeping staff, who passed away in January 2021.

The Mohamed Ali Memorial Award will be delivered once per year to a select number of staff, with up to $1,500 per award recipient to be distributed.

Eligibility

Housekeeping or Transportation staff members currently employed (full-time or part-time) within UHN, across all sites within the organization.

2023 Application Process

Applications open on Monday, June 12, 2023. A completed application form must be submitted by Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Please see the linked document below.

Award recipients will be determined based on the established criteria and selected by the awards committee, made up of the fund-holders and Environmental Services staff from across all UHN sites. Confirmation of selection to the recipient(s) will be made by December 2023.

Criteria

Nominees will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Is committed to self-improvement through continuing education/professional development.
  • Exemplifies and embodies the vision and values of UHN, and adheres to the highest standard of excellence in their day-to-day interactions and activities.
  • Displays outstanding qualities of leadership, and maintains strong relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, including all patients and staff members.
  • Demonstrates a constructive and inquiring approach to problem-solving in the workplace.
  • Works effectively and professionally as a member of the Environmental Services team.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the organization, as well as to the Environmental Services team.

Acceptance

  • Successful applicants will be notified by the Awards Committee and notified as to the amount of their award.
  • Contact information for successful applicants will be collected (Name, UHN Employee ID, Address, Email)
  • Once the information has been collected and the paperwork has been processed, the Award recipient(s) will receive the award money on their next pay cycle and paystub, within 1-2 months of notification.
