Last week saw the start of an exciting new tradition at UHN. Every Friday until September 30th staff, volunteers and patients will have access to fruits, vegetables and healthy snacks at the Mobile Food Market. Parked on the patio next to Toronto General's Peter Munk Cardiac Centre entrance, this food market, in the form of a retrofitted TTC wheel-trans bus will offer low-cost, high quality produce. This mobile market is part of Toronto Public Health's city-wide initiative, Grab Some Good, which supports communities with few grocery stores.

This mobile market is in large part thanks to Victoria Valdez. Victoria, a part-time employee at Toronto General's Gift and Health Shop, was inspired to reach out to Toronto Public Health after receiving requests for healthy snacks from patients and staff. Turning a simple idea into action, Victoria has found an opportunity to bring more healthy options to our busy staff, volunteers, patients and their families. Thank you Victoria. This week I am excited to attend the Canadian Cancer Society's award ceremonies on Wednesday where UHN's own Dr. Mary Gospodarowicz is being honoured. Dr. Gospodarowicz is the 2016 recipient of the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute (CCSRI) O. Harold Warwick prize. She is being recognized for her outstanding research in cancer control and treatment and is the first radiation oncologist to ever receive this prestigious award. We are all so proud to see her being recognized for her impressive work – congratulations Dr. Gospodarowicz.
