Starting October 26th we will all participate in a survey that will give us insight about UHN's safety culture and I am asking everyone to participate. We need this information so that we can better understand the barriers to safety and the work we need to do to make this a safe place for staff and patients. Information about the survey may be found here along with a link to the video with Gaetan Tardif as he talks about the culture of safety and how they're working at Toronto Rehab.

UHN's flu campaign begins October 19 so watch the intranet for more information. This year UHN will again work with UNICEF Canada and for every shot given to a UHN staff member, we will be donating a shot through UNICEF to protect a child in the developing world. And, for every 50 shots given to UHN staff, we will donate five months of clean water to a child in the developing world. I'll be getting my flu shot as soon as they are available and I encourage everyone to take the shot as it gives you, your family members and our patients protection against the flu. Nobody wants the flu so the flu shot and frequent handwashing will help prevent the spread of flu.

And finally, we have kicked off the I give@ UHN Campaign which I am co-chairing with Joy Richards, Vice President – Patient Experience and Ed Cole, Physician in Chief. As in past years, you will have the option of donating to one of UHN's Foundations or to the United Way and I hope that you will join the campaign. This effort has the support of all four of our Foundations and the options for giving include direct donations, participation in the 50-50 draw that happens every pay period, donation through payroll deduction or participation in a fundraising event held at UHN. The goal for this year's campaign is $475,000 in total which is achievable as the campaign total for UHN last year was just over $450,000.
