This week the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) will be honouring Peter and Melanie Munk, who have been chosen as this year’s Outstanding Philanthropists. Peter and Melanie’s generosity to UHN over the past two decades has supercharged important cardiac research, established the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre and allowed UHN to become a world leader in cardiac care. Because of this, we have been able to improve the lives of thousands of Canadians living with heart disease. My warmest congratulations to the Munks on this award – we are all truly grateful for your contributions.

Partnership with Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center

I’m starting this week off in Shanghai to sign an agreement between UHN, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center. Our organizations have similar visions for the future of oncology and this exciting partnership will allow us to work collaboratively to promote research, support innovation, and exchange information about patient care, research, and education.

Purpose, Values & Principles (PVP) Celebration November 29 – December 1!

Over the past year, we have been revisiting our Purpose, Values & Principles (PVP) by reflecting on why UHN exists – asking ourselves, what is our impact on the world? What are our core values? And what are the behaviours that align with our values and support our purpose as an organization? Our new PVP should reflect UHN, both today and 50 years from now, and will serve as the foundation for the next steps in our journey of renewal. As we begin strategic planning, we will reflect on our current mission, “exemplary patient care, research, and education” and vision, “achieving global impact”, and shape our strategic plan. That’s why your feedback has been critical throughout this process – from open houses to electronic forums. Thank you to the thousands of UHN employees who provided their input in meetings, town hall forums, and electronic jam sessions, to shape this effort over the past year. Our plan for the next steps builds on the PVP foundation:

PVP plan

I'm excited to share that from November 29th to December 1st we will be unveiling our new purpose statement, our values as an organization, and the principles that support these values at PVP Celebrations across UHN. Please join me, members of our senior leadership, and patient partners for the launch of our PVP. The celebrations will include refreshments, PVP poster highlights, a pop up photo booth for team photos, and a PVP thumbprint tree poster where you can leave your thumbprint and sign your name.
