Last week, UHN launched an updated External Observer Policy and application process for Observerships. Our staff, physicians and surgeons facilitate thousands of Observerships each year, allowing Observers from outside of UHN access to UHN's clinical areas to observe examinations, procedures or other activities for the purpose of education, credentialing or surveillance.
While Observerships provide invaluable learning experiences, as well as reinforcing our reputation as a global leader in healthcare, it is important that UHN has appropriate "traffic control" mechanisms to ensure that we respect our patients' privacy and the effective delivery of care.
Several staff from across our sites and programs were consulted in the development of the updated Policy. A new website has been created to guide applicants through the new application process and this site can be accessed at http://www.uhn.ca/Health_Professionals/Observership/index.asp.
