Hi Everyone,

On behalf of the Senior Management Team at University Health Network I would like to wish all of you and your loved ones a safe and happy holiday season. I'd also like to say a special thank you to all the staff who will be working through the holidays. Your efforts are truly appreciated, especially by those patients and families who cannot be away from the hospital during this time.

Over the past year I have been very impressed with the dedication to patient care, the spirit of camaraderie, and the drive to implement new innovations across our three hospitals. Because of the hard work and dedication of staff and volunteers, 2006 has been a very successful year for UHN; here are just a few of the many highlights that come to mind:

· UHN earned full three-year accreditation - the highest possible award - from the Canadian Council of Health Services Accreditation;
· For the fourth year in a row, UHN ranked as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers;
· All of UHN rallied around Toronto General Hospital's CVICU nurses in their efforts to raise funds for Princess Margaret Hospital's Wig Salon, which resulted in an expensive haircut for me;
· SIMS' ER Notification project received a silver award at the Canadian Information Productivity Awards;
· Toronto Western and Toronto General hospitals began an unprecedented project to revitalize emergency and general internal medicine departments and improve patient flow; and
· UHN opened two large research centres including the Rotman McLaughlin Centre for Global Health and the McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine;
· UHN researchers were remarkably successful in this year's CFI grant competition;
· The Wilson Centre was again recognized for educational research excellence at the American Association of Medical Colleges.

I know that 2007 will be another exciting year for UHN, and I look forward to facing the challenges that come our way and to celebrating future successes with all of you. Have a well deserved, peaceful holiday.

Best wishes,
Bob
