Referrals
A physician referral is required.
Clients must be referred to a West Park Respirologist for consideration of enrollment in the outpatient or online respiratory rehabilitation program. Referrals should include: medical history and relevant test results (i.e. pulmonary function, chest x-ray, CT scan, oxygen or cardiac assessments) and client demographic information.

What We Do
The Respiratory Day Program is an outpatient service that helps individuals with chronic lung disease to live independently in the community. It offers the following programs.
Outpatient Respiratory Rehab (In-person or Online)
Our team of health care professionals works with clients to determine individual treatment goals to improve their independence.
As part of the outpatient or online respiratory rehabilitation programs, clients participate in supervised exercise and education classes two (2) days per week for ten (10) weeks.
Clients are also provided with a home exercise program for days during the week that they are not at West Park Healthcare Centre.
The respiratory rehabilitation program includes:
- Supervised exercise with a focus on cardiovascular fitness, upper and lower limb strengthening, and endurance training
- Education about chronic lung diseases, medication, nutrition, anxiety and depression, coping and relaxation, energy conservation and body mechanics, managing activities of daily living, community resources, pulmonary function tests, and sleep lab, travelling with oxygen, importance of exercise and disease specific self-management strategies.
Outpatient Respiratory Maintenance (In-person)
This program is only available to graduates of a West Park Respiratory Rehabilitation Program. There are no direct referrals from the community.
As part of the outpatient or online respiratory maintenance program, clients participate in a supervised exercise class one (1) day per week for six (6) months
The program includes supervised exercise with a focus on cardiovascular fitness, upper and lower limb strengthening, and endurance training.
Eligibility Criteria
- 18 years of age and older
- Medically stable
- And have a chronic lung disease.
Note: the online respiratory rehab program has additional health safety and technological requirements.
Costs
The cost of the service is covered for clients with a valid Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card issued by the
Ministry of Health.
