Interventional Thoracic Surgery Program

Led by Dr. Kazuhiro Yasufuku, the Interventional Thoracic Surgery Program provides leading-edge thoracic interventional procedures, including:

  • Diagnostic bronchoscopy (white-light bronchoscopy, autofluorescence bronchoscopy, narrow-band imaging, endobronchial ultrasound, transbronchial biopsy, navigational bronchoscopy and in-vivo endocytoscopy)
  • Airway stenting
  • Photodynamic therapy
  • VATS pleuroscopy
  • Management of pleural effusion
  • Similar procedures for esophageal diseases

Our state-of-the-art Interventional Thoracic Surgery Suite opened at Toronto General Hospital in 2010. As the first of its kind in Canada, this hybrid endoscopy/surgical suite pairs general anesthetic capabilities with innovative endoscopy technology. We are integrating the Interventional Thoracic Surgery Suite with our existing intervention programs, including minimally invasive and ultra-minimally invasive surgery, image-guided therapy and basic research.
