Screening Success Story

In June 2019, Edward Zielinski was diagnosed with Stage 2b lung cancer. "There is no word in the English language to express how grateful I am that I went for that scan -- because I'm still here. I'm alive to see another day with my wife and daughter." Edward was saved by the scan and routinely gets screened to make sure he stays cancer-free.

What We Do

UHN's Lung Cancer Screening Program promotes prevention and early detection of lung cancer in high-risk patients by conducting a short, non-invasive diagnostic exam (low-dose computed tomography/LDCT).

Regular screening can lower your risk of dying from lung cancer by 20% if you are at high risk for lung cancer.

If you would like to be part of UHN's Lung Cancer Screening Program, you can enrol yourself in the program or ask your doctor to refer you to the program. To take part in UHN's Lung Cancer Screening Program, you must:

  • Be 55 to 74 years of age
  • Be a smoker or former smoker
  • Have smoked cigarettes daily for at least 20 years (it does not have to be 20 years in a row)

To enrol in the program, call 416 340 4154 or ask your doctor to submit a completed Lung Cancer Screening referral form >>

UHN is one of the dedicated screening locations of the Ontario Lung Screening Program.
