You will be contacted with information about your first appointment.
What to Bring
Please bring the following to your appointment. Not all of these items may be needed for your appointment. Our Lab or your referring doctor will let you know what you must bring.
- Your referring doctor may have given you a CD or DVD of previous imaging results (like X-rays, CT scans or MRIs). If so, it is very important to bring this CD or DVD with you. This is for GI consults only, not for Motility Lab testing.
- List of all medications you are taking, including prescriptions, over-the-counter, vitamins or mineral supplements and herbal remedies.
- Medications that you need to take during the day. Please also bring any medical equipment you use.
- Notes about any changes in your condition since your last visit.
- A trusted friend or family member who can give you emotional support and help you.
- A list of doctors and hospitals you've seen in the past who may have information about your treatment. This is for GI consults only.
- A list of questions to help you remember everything you want to ask.
When You Arrive
Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
Upon arrival, check in with the front desk staff and have your health card (OHIP card) ready.
For non-OHIP or self-pay patients, please notify the office or the Lab in advance so that we can provide information regarding the associated costs.
You may be given a Measuring Health Equity Questionnaire to fill out. This form contains questions about your background. We collect this information to find out who we serve and what unique needs you may have. The form is voluntary, and you can choose 'prefer not to answer' to any or all questions. However, the information you choose to give us will help us improve the quality of care for you and others.
How Long Will Your Appointment Be?
For GI Consults
First appointments typically take up to 2 hours or more. - Follow-up appointments usually last 15 to 30 minutes. We make every effort to stay on schedule, but in some cases, unforeseen circumstances may cause delays.
Motility Lab Testing
Depending on the specific test being performed, appointments take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Before You Leave
For GI Consults
After each appointment, a member of your healthcare team will explain the next steps in your care plan. Please make sure you understand what will happen next—for example, the time and location of your next visit or whether someone will contact you with this information.
If you are uncertain about any part of your follow-up plan, do not hesitate to ask a team member. We are here to support you.
About Phone Calls
For GI Consults
We recognize that reaching us by phone may sometimes be challenging. Our lines may be busy or redirected to voicemail while staff prepare for clinics or assist other patients. We aim to return all calls within 24 hours. Our staff will attempt to reach you twice; if unsuccessful, you may need to contact us again.
Motility Lab Testing
Failure to attend two scheduled appointments or rescheduling two appointments will require a new referral before further testing can be booked. Please note that referrals are valid for two (2) years. Current wait times for testing exceed one year; therefore, missed appointments can significantly impact scheduling for other patients.
