Joseph Rotman, a well-known business leader and philanthropist who died Tuesday at the age of 80, leaves behind a great legacy of giving, including to a variety of programs at UHN.
"Joe will be remembered as a great friend of UHN," says Tennys Hanson, President & Chief Executive Officer, Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation and Vice President & Chief Development Officer, University Health Network. "Together with his wife, Sandra, he supported a broad scope of UHN programs, including medicine, cardiology and arthritis."
In 2004, in honour of Sandra's term as a UHN trustee, Joe established the Sandra Rotman Centre in Global Health, a partnership between UHN and the University of Toronto to fund life-saving health innovations in developing countries, as well as the Sandra A. Rotman Laboratories, which is home to transitional biomedical research that characterizes major global health threats such as malaria, HIV and tuberculosis.
"Canada has lost a great philanthropist and business leader," Tennys says. "Our condolences go out to Sandra and their children, Kenneth and Janis."
