FM-PRO's Redevelopment team is set to renovate the Princess Margaret (PM) Lodge, so out-of-town cancer patients – and their families – can once again have access to specialized cancer services. The PM Lodge, located just 2 kilometres away from Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, at 545 Jarvis St., is a self-care facility for active cancer patients and family members.

While there is no nursing or medical care provided at the 105-bed facility, it is a tremendous resource for UHN cancer patients, as it provides a comfortable place to stay while receiving treatment in Toronto. During their stay (often six to eight weeks) they're provided three meals per day, hourly shuttle service to Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, daily housekeeping and security, as well as access to PM satellite services like a patient library, cancer programs and activities like bingo and music nights, tea and refreshment sessions.

Unfortunately the Lodge closed in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and hasn't re-opened, as renovations are needed to bring the building – originally built in the 1950s – up to today's standards.

Over the next year, the Redevelopment team will fix water damage and mold growth, as well as renovate and repair the plumbing, draining and HVAC systems to ensure appropriate air quality. They'll also convert 25 two-piece washrooms to three-piece, refresh the flooring, tiling, paint and landscaping.

Once renovations are complete – estimated for 2024 – UHN will be able to welcome cancer patients back to the Lodge, enhancing clinical care to better meet the full spectrum of patient and family needs across the cancer care continuum.
