Dear Colleagues,
I thought I should let you know the sad news that Dr. Sheela Basrur has passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. You will remember Dr. Basrur as the Medical Officer of Health for Toronto during SARS who then went on to become Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health and Assistant Deputy Minister of Public Health.
She worked incredibly hard in protecting health care workers during the SARS epidemic and became a trusted figure during the crisis. She was an enthusiastic proponent of public health and we are all indebted to her energy and dedication. Canadian health care has lost a great champion.
