Education and Training is fundamental to increase global cancer capacity. The Global Cancer Program aims to educate the broader cancer community on global cancer control and to develop infrastructure to support knowledge exchange.

The Global Cancer Program’s education and training initiatives not only include training for oncologists but also for other allied health professionals required for a comprehensive cancer services program.

The Global Cancer Program seeks to implement, disseminate, and exchange knowledge on cancer care and novel medical educational techniques.​​ ​

Global Oncology Fellowship Program

In collaboration with the African Research Group for Oncology (ARGO), the GCP is recruiting a Global Oncology Fellow for a 1-year position during the 2026/2027 academic year. This position would include time in Toronto and in Nigeria. The successful applicant will receive a full salary commensurate with their level of experience, and a seed grant to support their research.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Medical degree from an accredited medical institution.
  • At least 2 years of postgraduate medical training in medical oncology, radiation oncology, or surgery in the United States or Canada.
  • Experience in conducting research and engaging in international partnerships.
  • Significant interest in global oncology.

UICC Technical Fellowships

Princess Margaret partners with the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) on the UICC Technical Fellowship program. This program provides cancer professionals with the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in cancer control through short term visits to Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. For more information on this program, visit the UICC website.

International Clinical Fellow Training

The Princess Margaret trains several international fellows a year to provide hands-on training and mentorship on best clinical oncology practice. Candidates are recognized through multiple channels including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Dr. Aba Scott

Dr. Scott was the recipient of the 2021 Conquer Cancer Bristol-Myers Squibb Global Oncology Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology for her project "Expanding Access to Three-Dimensional (3D) Conformal Radiotherapy for Cervical Cancer in Ghana", mentored by Dr. Michael Milosevic from the PM Radiation Medicine Program. She continued with the PM Global Cancer Program as a Research Fellow working on geospatial analyses of access to radiotherapy in Ghana.

Dr. Melinda Mushonga

Dr. Mushonga is a practising Clinical Oncologist from Zimbabwe with an interest in breast cancer, palliative care and global oncology. Dr. Mushonga was a clinical fellow in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto in 2019. She was the recipient of a 2022 ASCO Young Investigator Award and spent her year as a research fellow with the PM Global Cancer Program under the supervision of Dr. Danielle Rodin.
