Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is recognized as an international leader in cancer research and is home to highly committed scientists and trainees. Postdoctoral researchers at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre make important contributions to biomedical research. As future leaders, postdoctoral researchers benefit from acquiring leadership skills during their fellowship at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

The Princess Margaret Biosciences Oncology Leadership Development (BOLD) Program is an opportunity to develop self-awareness, communication and management skills to lead projects and research teams, and connect with other Princess Margaret postdoctoral researchers and leaders in academia, research, healthcare and industry.

Leadership and Self-Awareness

  • Develop a better understanding of yourself and your colleagues to create respectful, productive and positive working relationships
  • Discover the importance of mentorship in science and leadership development
  • Apply principles and practices to support inclusivity in your work

Knowledge Translation and Communications: Amplify Your Ideas

  • Determine successful communication strategies to improve collaboration
  • Use knowledge translation techniques and a variety of channels to elevate your communications

Health Systems, Global Health, Teams and Planning for the Future

  • Situate your work in the context of health and the health system
  • Influence others by using leadership strategies including conflict management, negotiation, and leading change
  • Build strong and healthy teams
  • Explore the wide variety of impacts and paths that may come after your time as a BOLD participant

Due to the collaborative nature of the program, and its emphasis on networking, sessions are in-person only. Online options will only be made available on a case-by-case basis.

Fall 2025 - Spring 2026

Note: Attendance at all program sessions is mandatory for participation. Confirm your supervisor has agreed you can attend all program dates. If you do not attend, you will not be able to proceed in the program.

  • Day 1: Thursday January 29, 2026 - 8:45am-4:35pm (in-person)
  • Day 2: Friday January 30, 2026 - 8:45am-2:45pm (in-person)

Application Criteria

  • Postdoctoral researchers and senior PhD students with an oncology focus in a research lab affiliated with Princess Margaret Cancer Centre for the 2025-2026 academic year.
  • Research must have an oncology focus, with a demonstrated connection to the cancer program at the University Health Network.
  • Must be able to commit to attending all program sessions and have approval from their PI.
