Referrals

Now Accepting Ocean eReferrals

This clinic is now accepting referrals through Ocean eReferral to help everyone save time and increase efficiency.

Please note that patients must be referred to the clinic's dermatologists by their family physician or another physician.

Please send an Ocean eReferral or complete the standardized referral form. Make sure that the reason for referral is clear and specific. Referrals that ask for non-specific requests such as "skin check" or "skin concerns" will be returned to you for further clarification. If your referral is urgent, please write an accompanying note to explain the basis of this determination and we will do our best to see your patient sooner. Please note that incomplete referrals will not be processed.

Email your referral via secure email to dermatology@uhn.ca including the patient's last name only in the subject line.

Pharmacy Clarification Requests
Please scan and email the prescription requiring clarification to dermatology@uhn.ca with "pharmacy clarification" in the subject line. Please ensure that your request is clearly stated.

Please note that clinic appointments may be virtual visits. The clinic team will let you know what type of appointment is appropriate for your care. Learn more about virtual visits at UHN »

Dermato-oncology

1 in 6 Canadians will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime and each year 85,000 Canadians will be diagnosed with skin cancer. All Canadians with risk factors for skin cancer should be checked by their family doctor who will then refer to a dermatologist if there are any concerns. Practice sun and skin awareness. Perform regular self-checks so that you are familiar with your skin. That way you’ll notice changes. Then, report them to your doctor without delay.

Promptly show your doctor any:

  • Suspicious skin area
  • Sore that doesn’t heal
  • Change in a mole or freckle

The Dermatologists at the Toronto Western Hospital are specialized in diagnosing and treating all forms of skin cancer as well as the skin needs of patients with other forms of cancer and its treatment:

  • Precancers (actinic keratosis and Bowen’s disease)
  • Lymphoma
  • Basal cell carcinoma
  • Melanoma
  • Squamous cell carcinoma
  • Rare skin cancers
  • High-risk skin cancer
  • Patients at high risk for developing skin cancer (due to immunosuppressant therapy or other factors)

We also work closely with UHN oncologists to provide treatments for skin conditions resulting from any type of cancer:

  • Skin, hair, and nail changes due to cancer treatment
  • Radiation dermatitis
  • Skin infections or side effects due to cancer treatment

Tests

Phototesting and photopatch testing are done to investigate photosensitivity disorders. We are able to refer patients to phototherapy if it is required.
