TeamUHN's Shared Path to Reconciliation: Honouring Indigenous Health and Wellness
UHN's refreshed Strategic Plan reaffirms a commitment to reconciliation and to respecting and upholding the rights of Indigenous Peoples to support health and well-being. As outlined in UHN's foundational commitments, this work involves privileging Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing, and improving access to culturally safe care. These efforts are a shared responsibility across UHN. A recent milestone includes the development of the new Indigenous Health and Wellness space at Toronto Western Hospital.
Current Initiatives of the Indigenous Health Program (IHP)
The Indigenous Health Program (IHP) continues to lead and support UHN's reconciliation journey through a range of meaningful initiatives:

- Hosting a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR) event on September 30 to honour Survivors, families, and communities;
- Offering Blanket Exercises this fall to deepen understanding of the history and impacts of colonization in Canada;
- Providing guidance to UHN programs and departments seeking to advance reconciliation efforts;
- Opening a new Indigenous Health and Wellness space at Toronto Western Hospital, with access to ceremony, gathering, and culturally safe care;
- Welcoming staff to connect with the Indigenous Health Program (IHP) — for support, referrals, or collaboration, contact IndigenousHealth@uhn.ca or call 416 340 4800 ext. 7858.
