About UHN's MSA

Medical Staff Association logo

The UHN Medical Staff Association (MSA) represents the interests of the Medical and Dental Staff at our organization. Under the Public Hospitals Act, each Ontario hospital must have an MSA.

The MSA is not a physician's union and cannot support individual grievances. We will be the voice of the medical and dental staff in the hospital on important matters.

The MSA also recognizes the importance of modelling and sustaining a positive environment for physicians to enhance their professional quality of life and in turn the quality of care provided to our patients.

What We Do

The Medical Staff Association Executive strives to:

  • Provide a forum for raising issues that impact the collective membership, whether those issues arise from the membership or the hospital
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration across the medical and dental staff
  • Represent the interests of the medical and dental staff to the hospital and the Board
  • Engage with hospital administration and provide effective representation of the MSA
  • Model and sustain a positive physician climate which serves to enhance professional quality of life

Executive Committee

MSA Executive Committee Members hold a position for a total of 6 years. The positions are as follows:

  • Two years as Vice President, MSA
  • Two years as President, MSA
  • Two years as Past President, MSA
