Toronto (July 3, 2005) - The Northeast Cluster Hospitals Partner with MDS and UHN to Provide Laboratory Services to 10 Hospitals in Region
An agreement has been reached with MDS Diagnostic Services and University Health Network (UHN) to provide laboratory services to 10 hospitals in Northeastern Ontario through the Toronto Medical Laboratory (TML) partnership.
The hospitals served include: Anson General Hospital, Bingham Memorial Hospital, The Lady Minto Hospital, Notre Dame Hospital, Sensenbrenner Hospital, Smooth Rock Falls Hospital, Hornepayne Community Hospital, Englehart & District Hospital, Kirkland & District Hospital and the Timmins & District Hospital.
Under the terms of the agreement, a clinical service partnership is established with the group of Northeastern hospitals to deliver a range of services, including:
"MDS and TML offer the best set of laboratory solutions to meet our evolving needs – solutions that are sustainable, ensure quality service delivery and are cost effective," said Tim Gehrke, Vice-President & CFO, Timmins and District Hospital. "We look forward to working with MDS and TML to further enhance the healthcare services we offer to the community."
"MDS, UHN and TML will leverage our combined resources, medical expertise, testing experience, commitment to quality and knowledge of regional service requirements to deliver optimal service in a seamless manner," said Kevin Empey, Vice President Finance and Corporate Services, University Health Network and Chairman of the Board of Toronto Medical Laboratories.
"An example of this is our plan to offer quality assurance services for point of care testing and incorporate emerging technology solutions, such as e-slide, which supports virtual slide analysis using digitized imagery, into this service offering" added Empey. "Developed collaboratively by MDS and TML, these services can play a vital role in addressing the unique challenges faced by northern hospitals."
MDS currently has extensive experience providing laboratory services in the region, including operating a testing lab in Sudbury and managing two local hospital laboratories.
"As the largest private community-based laboratory services provider operating in Northeastern Ontario, we are committed to developing solutions that help to build a high quality sustainable laboratory service in the region," said Frank Amodeo, Senior Vice President Market Development, MDS Diagnostic Services.
MDS and TML are set to phase in the provision of services to the Northeast Cluster hospitals beginning July 1, 2005.
