Toronto (June 11, 2011) - In its fourth year, the Ontario Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer continues to be Canada's most successful cycling fundraiser. Yesterday, The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation announced that 4610 participants raised $17.5 million in the fight to conquer cancer.

Today on the Niagara Parkway, Niagara Falls, between 11:30am and 5pm, riders will cross the finish line, completing their two-day journey.

The vision of The Princess Margaret is to conquer cancer in our lifetime. "45% of Canadian men and forty per cent of Canadian women will develop cancer during their life," said Dr. Benjamin Neel, Director of the Campbell Family Cancer Research Institute. "Due to the support received through The Ride, we are able to continue to recruit and retain the best scientists, purchase the most modern equipment, and fund high-risk, high-gain research projects that typically are not supported by other funding agencies."

Money raised through the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer allows The Princess Margaret to allocate crucial funds in three key areas: programs, platforms and people. Supporting promising research programs such as Immunotherapy, platforms such as image-guided technology and robotic surgery, and funding for all those who are keeping up the momentum for continuous research, to maintain the position as one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world.

"The community's generosity has once again exceeded expectations and I am truly inspired by everyone who was a part of the success this weekend," said Paul Alofs, President and CEO of the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation. "We are in a critical fight, but with your generous support, we are closer to our mission of conquering cancer in our lifetime!"

Last night, riders camped overnight at Mohawk College in Hamilton, to rest half-way through their journey.

To provide even more people the opportunity to experience this life-changing event, for 2012, the event is expanding. Riders will be given the choice of six different route options, to experience the road from a new perspective. Help make an impact and register today.
