Toronto (Oct. 17, 2005) - For the third consecutive year, University Health Network (UHN) was named as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2006. "UHN is an extraordinary place to work. Whether it's providing clinical care, conducting breakthrough research or teaching the next generation of health care leaders, this is an organization for our staff to thrive in," said Bell. "If our staff succeeds in their work, we, as an organization succeed."

UHN was one of only two hospitals in Canada to make the prestigious list and the only hospital in Ontario to be included.

The award, made by Mediacorp Canada, looked at Human Resources practices of about 55,000 organizations and companies, inviting 6,000 to apply and then evaluating the workplace environment. Selection was based on assessment of physical workplace, atmosphere, as well as workplace practices such as benefits, vacation and time off, communications, performance management, and professional development. Charitable efforts and community involvement were also considered. The final list will be published in Maclean's magazine's Oct. 24th issue.

"It is an outstanding achievement that we made the top 100 list for the third year in a row," said Emma Pavlov, Vice President of Human Resources. "UHN's ongoing commitment to continually improve and strive for excellence helped us achieve this prestigious award."

To support staff in furthering their skills, UHN offer a diverse range of learning and development opportunities, along with financial assistance, including an extensive leadership program which is central to the implementation of UHN's goals and strategies.

We also offer our employees competitive benefit packages, pension plans, maternity topup, as well as educational scholarships for the children of employees. In addition, our Code of Conduct and Diversity Programs are the foundation for building a strong culture of respect among our employees. University Health Network is a major landmark in Canada's healthcare system, and a teaching partner of the University of Toronto. Building on the strengths and reputation of each of our three remarkable hospitals, Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital, UHN brings together the innovation, talent and resources needed to achieve global impact on the health care scene and provide exemplary patient care.
