Toronto (May 31, 2009) - For the sixth consecutive year, University Health Network (UHN) was named as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2009.

"This achievement reflects a great deal of work on the part of our Human Resources team, our managers and every staff member who has stepped forward to make the working environment at UHN a healthy, supportive, interesting and vibrant place in which to spend our working lives," says Dr. Bob Bell, President and CEO. "If our staff succeeds in their work, we, as an organization succeed."

The award, made by Mediacorp Canada, looks at Human Resources practices of more than 75,000 organizations and companies, inviting roughly 16,000 organizations to apply and then evaluating the workplace environment. Selection was based on assessment of physical workplace, atmosphere, as well as workplace practices such as benefits, vacation and time off, communications, performance management and professional development. Charitable efforts and community involvement were also considered. The final list is published in Maclean's magazine's October 2 issue.

"I am so proud that UHN has been selected again this year," says Emma Pavlov, Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Organizational Development. "I believe that this validates our objective of continually developing new, effective programs to continue building UHN as an exciting and rewarding place to work and develop one's career."

In order to make a difference for employees and leaders, UHN implemented many new additions this past year including: the opening of the Oasis Employee Wellness Centre, creating a Clinical Managers Succession Development Program, four diversity councils and the Employee Opinion Survey Action Committee that is putting survey feedback into action.
